On Saturday, we posted the song of the week – The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman. Here’s the story of this song – the story behind the song is powerful.
At Soul Survivor Church in Watford, England, Pastor Mike Pilavachi challenged the congregation after realizing worship had become something people consumed rather than something they offered to God. To reset their focus, he removed the band, the sound system, and all the production. For a season, the church gathered to worship with nothing but their voices.
That experience deeply impacted worship leader Matt Redman. It led him to examine his own heart and ask whether worship had become more about music than about Jesus. As he processed that season, he wrote these now-famous words:
“I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it,
When it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.”
Those lyrics continue to challenge me. Worship is never meant to be about the style of music, the production, the building, or even how we feel in the moment. At its heart, worship is about fixing our eyes on Jesus and responding to who He is.
